Your blog is picking up momentum. You have received your first collaboration email request from a brand or fellow blogger. One of your first feelings is excitement. Before you happily reply let’s take a step back. There are a few things you need to consider before agreeing. If you aren’t quite sure exactly how this post is made just for you. Here are tips that I have used in my own blogging experience. Let’s get started.
1. Research

It sounds simple enough. If you have never heard of the brand or person contacting you check them out online. For brands, check out their website and look for the person who contacted you before you give them any of your personal information. Unfortunately, there are dishonest people who are looking to take advantage of eager bloggers. My usual search process involves a Google and LinkedIn search. It has worked for me so far. Also, look out for reviews from customers or other bloggers about the company. Then you will know whether you want your blog associate with them.
2. Ask Questions

You have now established that is the real deal next ask questions. I have some general questions I like to ask before I make any final decisions. Questions you should ask are the following: What is the deadline? Is this exposure based or a sponsored opportunity? Is there a word limit? & Will it post on their website or yours?
3. Contact Fellow Bloggers

Are you stumped on your next topic or looking to grow your blog? Why not reach to a fellow blogger you personally know or has a similar blog to your own. I have been fortunate to work with some great fellow bloggers by doing this. Also, your blog posts can be seen by a wider audience.
4. Review Information Before Final Decision

Now that you have received all the information from the brand in question it’s time to review before making your final decision. Also, have someone you trust to review it with you as well for anything you may have missed. It doesn’t hurt to ask additional questions. I practice this step personally just to make sure I understand everything before my decision is made.
5. Apply for Other Opportunities

If you are part of a blogging group or affiliate program why not apply for collaborations opportunities. I have been chosen for several opportunities without having the biggest numbers. Here’s a quick tip that I use when applying for opportunities. As cliché as it sounds be yourself and give a concise reason why you are the best candidate. Don’t just apply for opportunities because the brand is popular. Remember if you are chosen your blog will be attached to this brand and person. Make sure you are a fan of the brand.
6. Send a Thank You Note or Email

Last, after the opportunity is finished make sure to send a thank you note or email afterward. It doesn’t have to be that long. Mention how you are grateful for the opportunity and would love to be considered for any future opportunities. It speaks volume and who knows you could be considered for the next opportunity. Leaving a good impression is important especially in the blogging world.
Congratulations and here’s to scoring your first collaboration.
