2017 CFDA Fashion Awards Nominees & Honorees Announced

Yesterday the CFDA announced the nominees and honorees for this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards. As reported by WWD, the nominees were announced by CFDA Chairwoman & Designer Diane von Furstenberg. Some award categories include Womenswear Designer of the Year, Menswear Designer of the Year, Accessory Designer of the Year & Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent. Some of this year’s honorees are Kenneth Cole (inaugural Swarovski Award for Positive Change), Rick Owens (Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award), & Pat McGrath (Founder’s Award).

Back in October, we reported that Torrid narrowed down the finalists to four. Earlier today the winner of 2017 Face of Torrid was announced. Over 10,000 ladies auditioned, but there could be only one winner. 24-year-old Uruguay-born New Jersey resident Maria Gimena was declared this year’s winner. According to People, Gimena entered the competition after encouragement from a co-worker. Her prize includes a Torrid modeling contract, wardrobe, and $1,000 gift card. Congratulations to Maria and to all the lovely ladies who entered.

Earlier today Pantone officially revealed the 2017 Color of The Year- Greenery. According to their website, Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore, and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

Glamour Magazine honors Model Ashley Graham with her own Barbie doll

According to USA Today, Glamour Magazine honoring Model Ashley Graham at its annual Women of the Year Awards Monday, and will be presenting her own Barbie doll. Graham is the latest addition to Mattel’s Sheroes line which includes other amazing women such as Actress Zendaya, Ballerina Misty Copeland, and Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas. “(Graham) challenges the conversation around body norms, and we think that’s a really important message for girls,” says Lisa McKnight, senior vice president for Mattel’s Barbie brand.

Target’s latest designer collaboration is with Finnish label Marimekko . Although it officially launches in store and online tomorrow, here’s a little sneak peek. Each piece combines bold and multi-hued prints which are perfect for the spring/summer season. The prices range for $19.99 to $119.99 on various pieces. This fashion collection is also available in standard and plus sizes on certain items. There are also items available for the home and outdoor.
