Madame CJ Walker was the first self-made millionaire African American woman. Born Sarah Breedlove, she was the creator of specially formulated hair products for African American women as she suffered from hair loss herself due to a scalp disorder. Some of her early products include the “Walker Method”—involving her own formula for pomade, brushing and the use of heated combs which she demonstrated for potential customers.
