Things have changed since our last post in our Fashion At A Plus series, especially in the plus-size Industry. We have noticed all the changes; however, we decided to reach out via social media to gain some other perspectives on the subject. Fortunately, several people wanted to share their insights. Keep reading to find out what they had to say.
“The plus-size industry has immense growth potential, but it often faces limitations due to the narrow focus on certain sizes up to a 3X or body shapes as the primary narrative around larger bodies and that does not include extended sizes (4X and larger), body type or shapes. Having to search high and low for fashionable clothes shouldn’t be so hard! By expanding the conversation to include inclusivity and acceptance of larger bodies, the industry can tap into a broader market, fostering a culture that celebrates diversity in body shapes and sizes. This shift not only empowers individuals but also encourages brands to create products and experiences that resonate with a wider audience, ultimately driving more significant industry growth.”

“Currently I think that the industry for plus-sized people in fashion and media is having some trouble. The sudden shift back to the 90s/Y2K era body ideals has made it increasingly difficult for many plus-sized creators to grow in their careers. I know many people have felt it and are feeling that pressure to hide or change their bodies to conform to the current trends. The difference between now and when these body trends were first popular is that so many of us have seen our worth and continue pushing for diversity and inclusivity in fashion and media.”

There you have it. While both ladies offer their unique views the sentiment is pretty much the same. There is a visible reverting shift in the plus-size industry that is very evident for several reasons. Several brands and individuals are working diligently towards further progress in the Plus Size Industry.
