Mobile Fashion Week 2016 in Review

Posted on October 4, 2016September 13, 2018 By TamarahB86

This weekend was the sixth annual Mobile Fashion Week.  This year’s event was held at the stunning newly renovated The Steeple on St. Francis.  Mobile Fashion Week highlights the latest in fashion for eager fashion enthusiasts on the Gulf Coast. In addition to fashion, the event is all about giving back.

Proceeds from the ticket sales and sponsorship donations are given to the charity Camp Rap-A-Hope which is a free year-long camp for kids who have cancer.

My Own Sense of Fashion was in attendance serving as one of this year’s official bloggers.  Friday and Saturday nights were both filled with fashion, music, shopping and more. Over the two nights,
there was a total of 160 looks.  If you didn’t get a chance to attend, then I have you covered.
Here are some of the highlights from each night.

Opening Night (9/30/16)

Former Fox 10 Sportscaster Michael Brannon

DJ Bella

On this night we were all treated to the eye- catching collections, shopping, and great music courtesy of DJ Bella.

Carla DuPriest-Miller of Chris and Carla’s Catering &Heavenly Ribs

Native Royalty

Not only are their accessories gorgeous the owner was very friendly.

Several of the looks were the perfect piece to any fall wardrobe this season.

This collection paired opulence with sending a message through designs. Outside of the looks themselves what stuck out to me would have to be the face masks. They definitely remind of the ones worn by Beyoncé on her On the Run tour.

La Vie Luchian

Designer and Creative Director Sophia Luchianni

Designer and Creative Director Sophia Luchianni closed out the night with her latest collection. I really like how the vibrant color designs really corresponded with a variety of shades of lipsticks worn by the models.

Finale (10/2/16)

Some of the swag from the VIP Swag Bag

The grand finale of Mobile Fashion Week ended on a high note. Guests were treated to a new set of tunes by DJ Bella and of course who could forget the fashion.   VIP guests were treated to swag bags filled with products from the local retailers and personalized from those featured in the show.

William Bradley

William Bradley Founders (l-r) William Bradley Jones-Parnell & Rodney Jones-Parnell
The label now calls Los Angeles home since 2014. Namesake William Bradley Jones-Parnell was the winner of 2011 Designer Collection at the 1st Mobile Fashion Week.
Although I love the sophistication of the collection as a whole, I have to say I was particularly partial to the looks featuring hats.  I also had a chance to meet the designer and his partner Rodney Jones-Parnell during the intermission. They are great guys.

Treat from the designer for the VIP Guests- A Raspberry Macaron

Pastries were the theme for the designer’s collection.  I instantly felt like I was being transported to Candyland with the bright colored bob wigs and designs. I love how the collections were filled with color. As a nod to the collection, the designer treated VIP guests to a raspberry macaron seen above.  I had a chance to meet the designer during the night.

The high school designer’s collection was inspired by her aunt who unfortunately passed away from cancer. One of my favorite looks was the white paint splattered outfit consisting of a long sleeved crop top and high waist pants.  The designer was also the recipient of the 2016 MOBFW Junior Designer Scholarship which awards $1,500 towards to the school of the winner’s choice to major in any aspect of the fashion industry from photography to fashion/costume design.

Designer Megan Angeline Kowal

Staying true their name the line closes out its runway show with a mermaid being carried out down the runway. If the collection itself didn’t grasp the audience’s attention this closing move sure did.  One of my favorite swimsuits was the white feather bikini.
5% of all sales are donated to the Save the Manatee Club.

The designer closes out Mobile Fashion Week for another year. Her Spring/Summer 2017 Dark & Dreamy Capsule Collection not only was it an excellent choice to close out the show, but also a great contrast to collections from the night. I love the dramatic feel of this collection. One of the standouts would have to be the look consisting of several layers of tulle.

There you have it for Mobile Fashion Week 2016. It was my first time attending & I have truly enjoyed myself. I can’t wait to see what will happen at next year’s event.  Special thanks to Mobile Fashion Week for letting us be a part of this year’s event.  To stay up to date, you can find Mobile Fashion Week at their website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
