Last night was the 10th annual Black Girls Rock! The award ceremony took place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. This is a night to celebrate the achievements of women of color in the art and entertainment industries. Some of this year’s honorees include Singer Rihanna , Gladys Knight, Amandla Stenberg and Shonda Rhimes. Here are some of the looks from the red carpet. White and Gold were popular colors of the night. The trend of the night would have to be the pantsuits.

I love her natural hairstyles.
We here at My Own Sense of Fashion think it is important to have awards shows like this because so often women of color and their achievements are still very much so overlooked in society. Even though we have made strides there is still more work to be done.
Black Girls Rock! Inc was founded by Beverly Bond in 2006 as a youth empowerment mentoring organization. In 2010, Beverly Bond partnered with BET to share her BLACK GIRLS ROCK! vision with the rest of the world. As the creator and executive producer of the televised show, Bond crafted a program that was groundbreaking in its approach to exhibiting the breadth and depth of talent celebrated by women in the African Diaspora.
